Best Practices
You can see how much Movilennium the team has from your dashboard. You may wish to share this with the players. Depending on the aim of the session you might want to drop hints about the requirement for Movilennium and the pooling of resources, or leave the players to learn directly from mistakes.
Reasons for Inclusion Within The Game
- The existence of CROB provides a simple mechanism for turning the rewards from efficient teamwork into progress within the game.
- It is common for games to have a “tech track” or some kind of “skill system” where players can acquire new skills. As a professional game designed to be accessible by a wide variety of players in relatively short sessions, Evivve pushes technical abilities onto CROB. It is up to the players to work together effectively to make the most of CROB’s skills, rather than developing those skills themselves.
- As a clear goal of the game the acquisition of Movilennium keeps the game relatively simple. This enables both the players and facilitators to concentrate on the strategies and interactions towards this goal, rather than the players having a variety of choices on how to win. This also enables a clear evaluation of whether the team succeeded or failed, and also enables a facilitator to focus on what caused that success or failure within the team’s dynamics.
- CROB is an invented organisation that, through the use of the immersive video introduction, ensures that players are immediately immersed in the fantastical scenario. Its iconography and portrayal is designed to resist any association with real world organisations that players may have strong feelings about.
The theme of acquiring resources in this way is common enough in video games that any players familiar with the genre will quickly pick up the concept, and have an opportunity to share that knowledge with other players.
Challenges and Considerations
- For the purposes of a learning game players should be able to readily accept the absolute authority of CROB. The game mechanisms don’t allow any actions towards success except the provision of movilennium to CROB. Issues around accepting the scenario can be explored as part of a player’s personal development.
Successful provision of movilennium to CROB requires players to pool resources to buy and harvest from mines, and take on - supporting roles for whoever has chosen to work on mining. This can be a challenge if there isn’t a clear hierarchy in place to assign roles to specific players.
- Sending movilennium to CROB is the main aim of the game, but players will be unable to purchase mines, and therefore mine movilennium, with their initial resources. While they work on harvesting and accumulating Cronos they can lose track of how little time there is to get movilennium to CROB. As the facilitator you should be prepared to forewarn players of this and encourage them to begin their mining activities as soon as possible, or intentionally leave this issue as a “learning opportunity”, depending on your wider plan for the team’s development and the available time to replay the game.
